Northern Power Signs Contract Worth $1.3 Million to Make Products for Direct Drive Systems

WAITSFIELD, Vt. (AP) –Northern Power, a subsidiary of Distributed Energy Systems Corp. (NasdaqGM: DESC), which makes energy generation products, said Monday it signed a $1.3 million contract with Direct Drive Systems to make power converter products for use with its electric motors and generators. In addition, Northern Power was chosen by the Cerritos, Calif.-based motor manufacturer to provide power converters for its products in the future, Northern Power said.

Direct Drive’s high speed Frame 2 motor-generator features power levels of up to 2.4 megawatts and output frequencies of up to 750 hertz.

The system is designed to be smaller, more reliable, more efficient and more economical than the equipment currently used in oil and gas applications, Northern Power said.

Distributed Energy shares fell 6 cents to $4.09 in morning trading on the Nasdaq.
